When Home Is An Idea
The book is divided into three parts, and explores the concepts of identity and belonging. The poems are very personal and talk about the author’s time away from Mumbai and her experiences after moving back.
The book is divided into three parts and discusses the idea that home is not restricted to one place – it could be any number of things; a person, a smell etc. The first part, called ‘What is home anyway’ talks about how the author has traveled and moved to different cities and can call each one of them home. In the second part, ‘Limbo’, she expresses how one may be at home but need not feel at home or be comfortable in the place they were born. And the third part, titled the ‘Re-return’ features poems on the changes she saw in Mumbai, after having moved back after a 14-year hiatus. The poems in this book are honest and refreshing and offer a small glimpse into the life of someone who is ‘eternally displaced’.
